Mounjaro (tirzepatide) – Who Can Get It on the NHS?
We've had many questions about Mounjaro, the new weight loss injection.
GP's in Northamptonshire are unable to prescribe Mounjaro. We are awaiting approval from our commisioners. Tirzepatide - weight loss drug | Integrated Care Northamptonshire
Here's what you need to know.
Mounjaro is currently only available on the NHS for a small group of patients, under strict criteria. You must:
- Be 18 or over
- AND Have a current BMI of 40+, or 37.5+ if you’re from a Black, Asian or other minority ethnic background
- AND Have 4 or more weight-related health conditions (e.g. type 2 diabetes, dyslipidaemia, high blood pressure, obstructive sleep apnoea, heart disease)
It's only being prescribed for people who meet the above criteria.
It is not available for general weight loss or cosmetic reasons, even if you're willing to pay privately.
